Tropical Paradise

Life in malaysia will be wonderful if you have a stable income.

Climate in Malaysia

If you enjoy tropical weather, malaysia is one of the best places to live. The weather will be same throughout the year with no surprises.  It will be hot during the day and Heavy Rains in the evenings. The temperature generally hovers around  26~32 degree Celsius.Except on the days when there is no rain, it will be generally cool during the night. If you are retiring or have an option of choosing a location in malaysia, there are many islands to choose from. If I have to choose, i would choose Penang

Malaysian Infrastructure

The Infrastructure is great in malaysia. One of the very best.

Electricity

The power supply is never interrupted. Not even a single blackout.

Water Supply

Water Supply is abundant thanks to Heavy rains. The tap water quality is good and a simple water filter system attached to the tap should be enough.

Road

The Road Networks are really good within the cities and between the cities. Every part of the city is generally well connected to other parts of the cities through Highways/Toll Roads. Except for the peak office hours, the driving time required for a particular distance is always predictable and reasonable.

If you are from a western country, you will never forgive the car price though.

Public Transport

Public Transport is generally inadequate for travel within the city but everyone owns a car and enjoys the convenience of the car..so there are not many who misses the public transport. Bus/Train facilities are available to travel between cities. The core of Kualalumpur is covered with some rail networks.

AirPorts

The Kuala lumpur International Airport (KLIA) is one of the very best Airport in the world. You have to experience it to appreciate the airport. The airport is located well outside of the city and connected to the city centre through excellent highways and through an Express Train service.

Going through this airport is a breeze. Check In/Immigration/Security Check all done in 15-30 minutes..

Telecommunication

Most part of the malaysia is networked through landline and mobile networks. Most of the telecom networks offer the latest available technology to their customers. Broadband service is good without any interruption. Dropped calls are extremely rare and the mobile reception is quite good throughout malaysia.

Education

There are many International schools and private schools in the city which caters to the expatriate's kids.

Politics in Malaysia

As an outsider, as long as you dont meddle wiht the local politics, malasiyan politics wont affect you in any way. Malaysia is a democratic country and the people are generally tolerant to others beliefs.

Shopping in Malaysia

Malaysia is a shopping heaven and there are fewer places which can better the malaysian shopping experience. There are too many high quality shopping malls through out the malaysia, especially in Kuala lumpur. And most of the malls are continuously expanding. There are also Hyper Markets of every kind.

A Typical Mall in Malaysia

Safety in Malaysia

Though lots of car thefts and snatch thefts are reported in the press, the personal safety is generally quite good. The Police officers are courteous to deal with. Crime rate is quite low.

Malaysia is a great place to live because you have the opportunity to meet people of all races here living harmoniously. One thing that's not "SO" good it the current political turmoil faced by her.

awww I want to live in Malaysia, have been offered a job as a marketing officer, about MR4000 per month. I wanted to ask if you know how much is taken away from the salary for taxation.

That worries me a bit.

Thanks, I found all this info pretty useful, it's a nightmare when you want to live and work in a foreign country and have never even been there..

by the way, I just wanted to tell that I find Malaysia amazing, such a multi-cultural environment! So many new things to learn and admire =)

cheers from Mexico City!

Hi

We are in South Africa. We're are opting to live and work in Malaysia. In your opinion, is it a good move, because the currency here is much stronger than Malaysia and we will not be earning what we currently earn. We are a family fo 5 (ie: 2 adults & 3 kids). What kind of salary bracket should we be aiming for in order to live comfortably (not necc luxury)? And can you give any feedback on the crime there?

for foreigners it can be quite a hassle to get something done if one does not speak malaysian . If asking for information better try finding someone chinese or indian looking...chances are better.
